The Salcombe Brewery company started trading in September 2016.
Since the purchase of the Quercus brewery in Churchstow, Tom Madeiros our head brewer (from Boston USA) has been able to experiment with different recipes to perfect our new cask ale range. These new beers were launched in the early Summer of 2016 and have been positively received by licensees and consumers alike.
The existing brewery is based in Churchstow – between Kingsbridge and Salcombe. It is a traditional 8 barrel brewery with 3 Fermenting vessels and can produce 20 barrels a week.
The new Salcombe Brewery, which is under construction, will be a unique concept based on a decommissioned water reservoir utilising the ambient temperature of the underground facility and solar heating, making the brewery as energy efficient as possible. The brewhouse, to be built on the footprint of the reservoir near Kingsbridge, overlooking the Salcombe Ria and the beautiful South Hams.
The new brewery is scheduled for commissioning March 2017. We look forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike in May 2017 when the new brewery will be completed. Once the site is open we will organising pre-booked brewery tours for those people interested in learning more about brewing. We will also have the facility to provide beer in larger containers for weddings, parties and other events to the public. If you are really serious about learning the art of brewing you will be able to brew alongside our brew team on one of our Brew days.
